You may tell yourself that you have thoroughly inspected your house and you don’t need to pay someone to tell you what you already know. If you are on a budget or just really don’t want to bother paying someone hundreds of dollars, you can give yourself a fun DIY project instead!
- Start by looking for ideas on Pinterest, design magazines, or online
- Create a mood board so you can have an idea of what you are trying to go for
- Research similar items to the ones on your mood board. Always look for the best price!
- If you have furniture you are thinking of throwing away, see if you can upholster, refinish it, or create something new out of it!
DIY projects can always turn out to be fun, teach you new skills and save you hundreds of dollars.
4. Cut Energy Costs
Let’s be honest, we are all guilty of leaving unused electronics plugged in for days on end. We turn on the heater at night when it’s not really necessary and our AC is on full blast when we could have just opened a couple of windows. Cutting your energy costs can help you save money in the future and you can use that money on something else along the way. Saving money. Those are our two favorite words! Luxury? Hmm… sounds expensive... But wait! Adding some MONEY SAVING luxuries in your home can actually bump up the value of your home AND save you money at the same time! For example, a water filtration system doesn’t seem like something that would save you money, but, it purifies your water and keeps you from buying purified water jugs or water bottles at the grocery store. It saves the planet, and get this, it saves you money on water! Though you may not see immediate money saving results, when you calculate how much money you are actually saving per month and per year, you’ll be glad you invested in that small luxury.
6. Improve the Air Quality in Your Home
You may not know this, but air quality is really important these days. If your rooms smell like mold or mildew, forget about selling your home. You can hire an air quality specialist to test the air quality in your home and help you determine the best way to improve it. Here are some tips to improve the air quality in your home:
- Make sure your AC and filtration systems are updated and working correctly
- Get rid of carpet in the bedrooms à Carpets trap so much dirt and can ruin the air quality in your home if they’re old and not cleaned right.
- If you don’t want to get rid of the carpets, make sure you are deep cleaning them every couple of months à seems excessive, but trust me, it will keep your rooms clean.
